I was reading Malcolm Gladwell‘s blog this morning, and nodding along to his little ditty on racism.
If you’re not familiar with him, Gladwell is an awesome writer whose books should be on your holiday gift wish list. And even on his blog, he writes well and seems to always find interesting topics — like pitbulls.
What struck me about the racism article is the closeness in the argument over profanity. One could easily gut the references to race and replace them with references to profanity, and his argument holds up — and I see that as a testament to his argument. I’ve always that it’s how the words are used, not the words themselves, and he spells that out very well.
