I’m not really sure what got me thinking along these lines, but here are the basics.

I’m assuming that you:

  • have your music loaded into iTunes;
  • have most of the basic data for each track filled in (song, artist, album, genre, rating, etc).

Go to file, and select New Smart Playlist. That’d be Ctl-Alt-N for you short-key folks.

Match all of the following rules.

Rating is 5 star.

Last Played is not in the last 2 days.

Leave the live updating thing checked. Always. Click OK. Name it 5Star2.
Do this again three times, to make 4Star5, 3Star10, and 2Star21. No, there is no 1StarAnything. There isn’t.

Make sure you already have a smart playlist called Recently Added. Right click on it — it should be for all music added in the last two weeks. If not, make a new Smart Playlist, Match the following rule, Date Added is in the last 2 Weeks. Click OK, and name it Recently Added.

Make another new smart playlist. This time, match ANY of the following rules:

Playlist is 5Star2;

Playlist is 4Star5;

Playlist is 3Star10;

Playlist is 2Star21.

Click OK. Name it Base Radio. Presto — you’ve advanced to the next level. Have some cake.
