What, you thought I’d watch just one?

The Bourne Supremacy is #2 in the Matt Damon / Jason Bourne movies.? In the first movie, Jason Bourne started his journey to discover who he was, only to learn that he was a successful assassin for some murky, behind the scene American intelligence operation.

This movie picks up two years after the first one.? Bourne is happy — he’s broken the grip of the Amerian intelligence community and has drifted away to live a seemingly normal life.? He and his girfriend have settled down in India, and things seem to be good.

And they would have been, if another assassin had not decided to use Bourne’s fingerprint to throw the authorities off of one of his hits.? Suddenly, the FBI is trying to run to group this print, which leads them to the CIA, to Treadstone, and to Bourne.

And the FBI becomes interested in Bourne.

Things are complicated by the ghosts that haunt Bourne.? He’s being hunted for murders he didn’t commit, but thinks he’s being hunted for other murders that he did commit.

In the end, he dies, she dies, everybody dies. Well, everybody who’s not critical to the story of a third movie.? Bourne starts down a path of redemption in this movie, killing when he has to and not killing when he can.? It’s touching.? Ok, maybe it’s not.

  • I did not pay to see this movie; I borrowed the DVD from a classmate.? I’d have gotten it from Netflix or the library, though.? HBO would be a good way to see it, too.
  • The CIA comes off as a bunch of bumbling boobs in this film, and the FBI as good.? Huh — who would have figured.
  • Matt Damon is no better in this film.
  • Joan Allen does well in this film.? She’s never going to be a lead actress, but she’s a solid supporting actress.
  • If you accidentally see this movie, there’s nothing keeping you from also reading the original book.? The two, after all, are entirely different.? Probably the other thing common between the two is that they have a guy named Bourne in them both.
  • I’d have preferred a movie based on the story in the book.? But that’s just me.
  • While the whole redemption / confession to the daughter thing is touching, it’s a bit unbelievable, given all the killing that he does do.

  1. The Wife says:

Having read all three books (and loved them, even though each one could have ended about 100 pages before they actually did, but due to plot twists, actually ended about three more times before there was no more paper), I gotta say they are a serious investment of time and brain cells. If you can separate the movies from the books, I think you can actually do both. Read the books for a good story and lots of twists. See the movies for espionage-themed action.
