I have either:

– damaged the muscle on the underside of my foot, or
– pinched a nerve there, or
– developed a bone spur in a most-unfortunate spot under my foot, or
– just plain broken something there.

I could be in for anti-inflammatory drugs and / or steroids, or surgery, or who knows what they do for a break there.

But, apparently, all involve less running. Which sucks, because in two weeks, I want to start training for a marathon. Who knows – I might just do it any way.

So, the scorecard reads something like this:

– I sleep twice a day, for 3 hours at a stretch;
– I eat breakfast and dinner, and some cookies in between;
– I have a pretty damn stressful job right now which, oh by the way, is the greatest job on the entire planet;
– I’ve messed up my foot;
– and I may ease up on the running, or I may start training for a December marathon.

Please feel free to leave comments below, about what am idiot I am. It’s OK — I’ll understand.

    Sorry to hear ’bout the foot. Give us some details on your new job that you keep raving ’bout please.

    Dude! You’re a swimmer! Go find an FOB with a lap pool!

    Or, you know, try for a TDY with the Seals.

    Do you have plantar faciitis?

    Job details are in the email. I’m not really ready to talk about that out here in the public.

    Pool? I wish. There is / was one, but it’s been empty forever.

    And I doubt it’s plantar facilitis — possible right muscle, but I’m not showing those symptoms. I don’t seem to get regular injuries.

    Tough break with the foot, I hope it doesn’t slow you down too much. Hard work is bearable when you are doing something you enjoy…I wish I was doing something I enjoy at work.

    Do you hear Dad’s voice in the back of your mind saying, “Don’t do dumb things!”? (By the way, running when the doctor tells you not to qualifies as a dumb thing.)

    You might also want to be careful to not “put your foot in your mouth”; that could exaggerate the injury…

    Do you have a copy of “The Lore of Running”? It’s a 1000 page book, written by an MD, and
    has lots of detail about running injuries. Excellent for self-diagnosis.

    Dude, what’s the latest? I know that there’s a reason its called medical practice but does that mean they have to practice on you??? Thus, why they call us patients. Don’t hesitate in calling their bluff and getting that second opinion and don’t worry about hurting that guy’s feelings. He won’t know you in 5 – 10 years anyways and would care less.

    Cheers!!

    It is damaged the muscle on the underside of my foot. XRay says so, too. Drugs seem to be making a difference. Running to resume…. soon. Been almost two weeks without a run, and it’s not fun not running!

    I like auntzavi’s comment. Her second line is pretty good……I can’t add any better. LOL
